Scholars at Risk SAR

Information for hosts

Professors who are interested in hosting or have already started the procedure of receiving a scholar at risk at their institute.

Are you a professor at the University of Bern and interested in hosting a persecuted scholar who researchers and teaches in your field? If yes, then please contact the University of Bern SAR coordinator. There are two basic options:

  1. You already know an academic who fits the profile and who you would like to invite to the University of Bern for a temporary research and/or teaching position (max. 2 years). Either the person already has SAR status (i.e. SAR has made a background check and approved that the person is persecuted) or we will apply for this. Without SAR status approval, the University of Bern cannot hire the person as a SAR scholar.
  2. You are looking for a SAR scholar to come to your institute. In this case, contact the University of Bern SAR coordinator who is in direct contact with SAR Headquarters in New York and can help you find a suitable candidate.

Please note that the SAR coordinator and the Welcome Center of the University of Bern will offer substantial support in organising a candidate's immigration and housing.
